Ivan E. "Boz" Glandt
Mason funeral services were conducted for Ivan E. "Boz" Glandt, age 59, by Malta Lodge AF&AM #17 on May 16, at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis, Wyo.
Mr. Glandt died on May 12, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Mont.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1934, in Jay Em, Wyo., to William Carl and Eva Grace Holden Glandt and was raised on the family ranch which surrounded Manville, Wyo., west of Lusk. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at age 17 and became a cryptographer. Near the end of and after the Korean War, he helped establish the network of secret transmitting systems in the Far East which became so valuable to the Navy and United States during the French and American involvement in the Vietnam Wars.
After working in the oil fields, he returned to college and received his teaching degree from Northern Colorado University in Greeley in 1960.
Mr. Glandt worked as Director of Cottage Life at the Wyoming State Training School in Lander and as a Wyoming Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor in Riverton. After serving as Director of Statewide Planning in Cheyenne, he became Executive Director of the Wyoming Easter Seals Society. During his 12 years in that position, Mr. Glandt raised funds for and started construction of what is now the camp for the Wyoming Society for Crippled Children and Adults west of Buffalo in the Big Horn Mountains.
He became Executive Director of the Gottsche Rehabilitation Foundation in Thermopolis in 1986.
Mr. Glandt held many other jobs. He spent one summer spraying the Badwater Creek Drainage between Shoshoni and Waltman for noxious weeds for the State. He served in the U. S. Army at Ft. Carson, Colo. He also sold vehicles and mobile homes in Lander for Bill Eger's Motor Center and Wind River Volkswagen, including serving as manager. He and his wife, Barbara, also managed the Louis Lake Resort above Lander.
He was married to Charlene Pennington on March 17, 1957. They later divorced.
He married Barbara Byars Anderson on Aug. 29, 1976, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Glandt held many offices, including President of the Thermopolis Kiwanis Club and current Chairman of the Governor's Advisory Council for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Malta AF&AM #17, Kalif Shrine and BPO Elks #1746.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of Thermopolis; a brother, Woody of Lander, two sons, Todd of Thermopolis and Curt of Sacramento; a daughter, Christine Moore of Cheyenne; two stepdaughters, Korin Dowler of Albuquerque, N.M., and Heidi Anderson of Thermopolis; and three grandchildren.
