Pete Germann

Peter Robert Germann, 85, passed away Aug. 9, 2000, at Blue Grouse Health Care Center in Ft. Collins, Colo.

Pete was born Aug. 21, 1914 in Node, the son of Gottfried and Elise Germann. They had come from Switzerland in 1911 to homestead five miles northeast of Node. Pete attended school and lived most of his life in Node. He married Mary Grant of Jireh, Oct. 9, 1943 in Lusk. They made their home for most of their marriage in Node where together they owned and operated the Node Store and post office.

He also ran a repair and radiator shop, drove the school bus for many years and drove mail to Chadron, Neb., part-time. Pete was an excellent mechanic who could repair virtually any mechanical device.

He was also an avid musician, playing the saxophone, banjo, guitar and violin, which he learned to play from Ed Thompson at the age of 8. Throughout most of his life, he and Mary played for barn dances, at road houses and at community and charitable events in Eastern Wyoming. Over the years, he won many prizes in fiddling competitions throughout the region. His greatest joy in life were fiddling and visiting with his many friends and family.

He was a member of the Torrington Fiddlers Association and the Lusk Baptist Church and attended the Node Sunday School. Survivors include daughters Claudia Bartow of Lusk and Georgia Shoults of Van Tassell; sons Clark of Arvada, Colo., and John of Belvue, Colo.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a sister, Marguerite Fietz.

Services were held Monday afternoon at Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, with Pastor Delbert Dick officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Niobrara Senior Center in Lusk or the Node Sunday School in Node.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
