Concluding Rites for Theron S. Grant, Former Jireh Resident, Wednesday In Manville; Burial in Jireh Cemetery

Concluding rites were conducted from the Manville Community Church at Manville, yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at two-thirty o'clock for the late Theron S. Grant, former Jireh resident. Rev. Edward Poser officiated at the final services.

A male quartet composed of Don Unruh, Rev. Poser, Roy Elkins and Frank Kuhn sang "Wondrous Love of Jesus." And "We Are Going Down the Valley." They were accompanied by Mrs. Edna DeCastro, who also accompanied Mr. Kuhn as he sang "The Land Where We'll Never Grow Old." Custer Lodge No. 21 of Lusk, I.O.O.F., conferred burial rites at the church, with Johnnie Thon and Lawrence Kaan, presiding.

Bearing the remains to their final resting place in the Jireh cemetery were six nephews, Neil Grant, Elmer L. Grant, Fred D. Grant, Jess N. Grant, John M. Grant and Pete Germann.

Theron S. Grant was born at Velle Plains, Wis., August 1873 and passed away at his home last Sunday afternoon, March 25th, 1956, after an extended illness. At the time of his demise he had attained the age of 82 years. He moved to Iowa with his parents and brother while a boy, where the family resided at Rhodes, Iowa for many years. Mr. Grant received his education at Iowa State college at Ames, Ia.

He came to Wyoming at Easter time 61 years ago where he homesteaded in the Jireh community about 1908. He was principal of the Keeline school for a number of years and published the old Keeline Record newspaper from about 1919 to 1923. Earlier he had also taught school at Lusk, and for a time ran a furniture store in this city. He also was associated with Lusk newspapers at one time.

Mr. Grant was a life member of Custer Lodge No. 21, of the International Order of Odd Fellows of Lusk. He was made a life member in 1948 and at the time of his demise had been a member of the order for 58 years. He transferred to the Lusk Lodge from a lodge in Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in 1930.

T.S. Grant, Early Jireh Resident, Dies at Casper

Theron S. Grant, Wyoming resident for 61 years, died late Sunday at the family home in Casper after an extended illness. He was 82.

Funeral services were being held in the Manville Community church this Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Edward Poser officiating and burial was to be in the Jireh cemetery beside his wife who died in November, 1930.

Mr. Grant was born at Velle Plains, Wis., August 3, 1873, moving to Iowa with the parents and brother while a boy. The family resided at Rhodes, Ia., for many years, and Mr. Grant received his education at Iowa State College at Ames, Ia.

He came to Wyoming at Easter time 61 years ago. He homesteaded in the Jireh community about 1908. He was principal of the Keeline School for a number of years and published the old Keeline Record newspaper from about 1919 to 1923. Earlier he had also taught school at Lusk, old friends remember, and for a short time ran a furniture store in Lusk in the present Costlow building. He was also associated with Lusk newspapers at one time, and in more recent years maintained his interest in writing by occasionally submitting a letter to The Herald.

Mr. Grant was a life member of Custer Lodge of the International Order of Odd Fellows of Lusk. He was made a life member in 1948 and at the time of his death had been a member of the order for 58 years. He transferred to the Lusk lodge from a lodge in Iowa.

He and Mrs. Grant had no children of their own, but did adopt a daughter, Helen, who is now traveling and at The Herald press time had not been contacted.
