Elsie Hesco, who died May 9 at Lusk, was born July 29, 1908 in Avon, S. Dak., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Giedd. When Elsie was six years old the family moved to Texas for two years. They then moved to Wyoming in 1916, homesteading in the Seamen Hills area northeast of Lusk. Elsie attended school in Hat Creek.
Both of her parents died while Elsie was young, so she stayed at home to cook for and help raise her brothers and sisters.
She married Edward (Ed) J. Hesco on Sept. 6, 1932, in Hot Springs, S. Dak. They worked on a ranch for a time until they began ranching on their own.
Elsie was a member of the Hat Creek Ladies' Club and served as a 4-H leader for several years. She was an accomplished artist and loved to paint scenic pictures. She also was very fond of gardening and livestock.
Survivors include her husband Ed Hesco of Lusk; a son, John Hesco of Greybull, a daughter, Shirley Hammondtree of Ceres, Calif., two brothers, Ferdinand Giedd of Casper and Ben Giedd of Pahrump, Nev., two sisters, Ida Dean of Desert Springs, Calif. and Emma Hollan of Lusk; five grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
