Jerry Hollon, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009, in Laramie, Wyoming, after a short illness.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 6 at the First Christian Church in Laramie, with Pastor Dan Russell and the Reverend Dr. Sally Palmer officiating. Inurnment was held at a later date in Lusk, Wyoming.

He was born on May 2, 1920 in Lusk, Wyoming. Jerry was the eldest son of Duff and Emma Giedd Hollon of Lusk, Wyoming. He graduated from Lusk High School, with the Class of 1938.

He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1942, with a Degree in Geology and was a member of the SAE fraternity.

Jerry was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division, stationed at Camp Hale, Colorado. He was later deployed to Japan and served in the Ski Troops. Jerry retired as a Major in the US Army in 1946.

He married Donabelle Lorrainne Hoblit, on January 22, 1944, in Denver, Colorado, from this union four children were born, Jim, Heidi, John and Holli.

After World War II, Jerry and his brother, Eddie started the Frontier Lumber Company, which had stores in Lusk, Douglas and Edgemont, South Dakota. The Hollon brothers were the first to receive an SBA (Small Business Administration) loan in the Rocky Mountains. Jerry was a talented business man and entrepreneur.

Jerry and Donabelle made their home in Lusk until 1974, but departed to Laramie, Wyoming, when the University of Wyoming asked him to create the University of Wyoming's Foundation, with the purpose of raising money for the University of Wyoming. He retired from the University of Wyoming in 1990, as Vice President of Development.

Jerry's loyalty to the University of Wyoming ran deep. He served as President of the UW Alumni Association in 1956 and Board of Trustees from 1965-1977, serving as President in 1970. He was the recipient of the UW Medallion Service Award in 1986. Jerry was a 60-year season ticket holder to both Cowboys Football and Basketball.

Jerry was a tireless volunteer to the SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) organization for Colorado and Wyoming.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, John Jeffrey.

He is survived by Donabelle, his wife of 65 years of Laramie and Lusk; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James Duff & Jane Hollon of Laramie; daughters and son-in-laws, Heidi & John Schutterle of Laramie and Holli & Russell Spencer of Castle Rock, Colo. Also surviving Jerry are one grand-son, Rob (Kacee) Schutterle of Laramie; five grand-daughters, Annie and Amy Hollon of Laramie, Emily (Aaron) Otten of Colorado Springs, Colo., Alison (Daniel) Gibson of Elk Grove, Calif. and Tara Schutterle of Laramie; two great-grandsons, Brendon and Michael and two great-daughters, Kayla and Emma. Jerry is also survived by his beloved brother, Ed and sister-in-law Margory of Douglas and three nephews, Ward Hollon of Phoenix, Ariz., Howard "Rick" and Blake Hollon of Douglas.

Graveside services for Clifford "Jerry" and Donnabelle Hoblit Hollon will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sat., June 28, 2014 at Lusk Cemetery, with Pastor Mark Lohr officiating.

Donabelle passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Dec. 15, 2013 in Laramie, Wyoming.

A memorial service was held Dec. 27, 2013 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ.

She was born on Feb. 24, 1921 in Springview, Keya Paha, Nebraska, the only child of James Donald and Emma Wagner Hoblit. In 1933, she moved with her folks to Lusk. Donabelle graduated from Lusk High School with the Class of 1938 and in 1940 from Colorado Women's College in Denver, Colorado.

Donabelle and Jerry made their home in Lusk until 1974 when they moved to Laramie, Wyoming.

Jerry and Donabelle were preceded in death by their parents, infant son John Jeffrey, and other family members. They are survived by their son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James Duff and Jane Hollon of Laramie, daughters and sons-in-law, Heidi and John Schutterle of Laramie and Holli and Russell Spencer of Castle Rock, Colorado. Also surviving them are one grand-son, five grand-daughters, four great-grandsons, and three great-granddaughters.
