Mrs. Henry Kaan Called By Death Saturday Morn

One of the saddest deaths ever to occur in this community resulted last Saturday morning, when at 7 o'clock, Mrs. Henry Kaan, who three hours before had given birth to a daughter, succumbed to thrombosis at the family ranch home, about 11 miles southeast of this city.

Mrs. Kaan's passing leaves a widower and four children deep in sorrow. They are Henry Jr., Mabel Ardith, Henrietta Jean and the infant, Vivian Narcissia. Deceased is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mabel Kaan of Lusk, and four brothers, L. O. Butler of Lusk; G. W. Butler, R. N. Butler and Otto C. Butler, all of Venus, Nebraska.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, a brief service being held at the home at 1:15, from which place the remains were conveyed to the Congregational church. There, many friends gathered to pay final respects to a woman loved by all who knew her. Rev. Edwin F. Irwin, pastor, officiated. The Congregational mixed quartet and Mrs. H. J. Templeton rendered several songs.

Among the mourners were many members of the Rebekah and Odd Fellow lodges of this city, deceased having for a number of years been affiliated with the sister order. The final rites at the grave in the Lusk cemetery were in charge of the Rebekah lodge, with Rev. Irwin offering a prayer.

Pall bearers were Rolla Porter, L. R. Van Tassell, George Saffell, Roy McLain, L.L. Archer, Archie Sparks, M. P. Vollmer and A. F. Vogel, all members of Custer Lodge of Odd Fellows. Funeral arrangements were under direction of the Midwest Mortuary.

Vivian Narcissia Butler was born on December 30, 1896 at Emerson, Nebr. It was there that she received her education and grew to young womanhood, graduating from the Emerson high school. Shortly after her graduation, she moved with her family to Venus, Nebr. She was a member of the Congregational church at Emerson, and continued her letters with that church up until time of her passing.

She became the wife of Henry Kaan on November 10, 1920 at O'Neill, Nebr., and in the following spring they moved to the present ranch home. During residence here the family has made many warm friends, all of whom held a deep admiration for the deceased. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and an affectionate sister, and her death leaves a vacancy none other can fill.

The Free Lance unites with the many friends and neighbors in extending deepest heartfelt condolences to the bereaved.
