Last Rites for Raymond Larsen

Funeral services for Raymond Larsen, who died August 26, were held at the Methodist Church in Harrison on August 29 and burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

The Rev Stanley Malmgren of the Chadron Baptist Church officiated. Mrs. Bill Coffee sang "Gold Mine in the Sky" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Harry Serres playing the organ. Pallbearers were Donald Mack, Kenneth Watson, Johnnie Marstellar, Bob Powell, Richard DeHaven and Duke Rabe.

Mr. Larsen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars C. Larsen and the youngest of eight children, born April 16, 1901, at Armour, S. Dak., and resided in South Dakota until the spring of 1908 when the family moved to a homestead 20 miles south of Harrison where he grew to manhood.

He was baptized into the Lutheran faith in a country church at Lake Andes, S. Dak., when a small child.

He married Alice Hamaker on August 22, 1930, at Wheatland, Wyo., and they settled on the Harvey Zerbe homestead ten miles southeast of Harrison. They lived there until September, 1939, when they purchased the Joe Konop place. Mr. Larsen was engaged in the ranching business there the remainder of his life. His death from cancer came at the Chadron hospital although he had been in several hospitals during the past year in his struggle with the disease.

One daughter, Norma Rae Grapes met a tragic death in a car accident in September 1949 at the age of 19. He is survived by his widow, Alice; two brothers , Chris Larsen of Alcester, S. Dak., and Bryan Larsen of Scottsbluff and two sisters , Hannah Paulson of Giddes, S. Dak., and Bertha Orr of Oakland, Calif., his parents and three brothers , John, Jen, and Carl had died previously.

Neighbors have helped Mr. Larsen keep the ranch operating during the time that Mr. Larsen was ill.
