George Melvin Miller

George Melvin Miller was born November 24, 1897 at Joplin, Mo., the son of George and Cora Miller. He died June 9, 1984 at Niobrara County Hospital in Lusk.

He attended schools in Twin Falls, Idaho and Alliance, Neb. He operated a butcher shop in Antioch, Nebr., in partnership with his brother, Pat. On Feb. 14, 1918, he married Ollie Canfield at Alliance. After the wedding, they moved to Niobrara County where they homesteaded near Hat Creek and lived for 30 years.

Mr. Miller was inducted into the army in the spring of 1918 and served overseas in France. He returned to his homestead in July of 1919. He was a lifetime member of the Bryant-Kant V.F.W. Post No. 10390 and a member of the Church of Christ of Lusk. On September 29, 1982, he was married to Alice Stinson of Lusk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie; one son, Lloyd; one grandson and one great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Lusk; six children, Cleo Green of Thermopolis, Lila Stratton of Lance Creek, Don of Riverton, June Terrell and Jack of Lusk, and Jean Matthewes of Thermopolis; one sister, Erma Gregg of Santa Cruz, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Memorial services were conducted at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk June 12, 1984, with the Rev. Mark Lohr officiating. Music was by organist, Minerva Watson and Mark Lohr sang "The Last Roundup" and "Going Down The Valley."

Pallbearers were Milton Himes, Verner Johnson, Rocky Phipps, Hubert Terrell, Jim Heth and Burr Bryant.

Interment was at Lusk Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to the Niobrara Nursing Home.

Arrangements were by Peet Mortuary.
