Services for Mark L. Mundlein, 21, were at 2 p.m. on July 7, 1998, at Kennebeck Gymnasium, Kennebec, S. Dak. The Rev. David Otter officiated. He was buried at Kennebec Cemetery. Memorials are to the family.

Mundlein died July 4, 1998, the result of a car accident.

He was born Oct. 27, 1976 in Pierre, S. Dak., the son of Jerry and Carmen (Tadewald) Mundlein. In 1980, he moved to Lusk.

He attended kindergarten there and elementary school at Torrington. He graduated from Niobrara County High School at Lusk in 1996. While in high school, he was active in vocal and instrumental music, playing the trumpet. He was an avid sports participant, playing football, basketball, wrestling and track. He loved hunting and fishing.

His summer months were spent in Kennebec working with his father and his uncle Tom on the family farm.

He attended one year of Junior College at Dickinson, N. Dak., where he red-shirted in football.

His goal in life was to own a John Deere tractor and eventually run the family farm.

This past spring, he and his cousin John helped plant over 50,000 trees for the Lyman County ASCS office.

His nickname during high school was "Mud" and also "Sparky".

He is survived by his father, Jerry and step-mother Judy Mundlein of Kennebec; his mother, Carmen and step-father Larry Bone of Lusk; one brother, Danny of Lusk; one sister, Penni and husband Travis Almond of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; one niece, Bailey Jo Almond of Sioux Falls; two step-sisters, Tammy and husband Jason Robbins of Mitchell, S. Dak., and Angelia and husband Andrew Frederick of Chamberlain, S. Dak.; grandparents Bertha Mundlein of Presho, S. Dak. and Herb and Rosemary Tadewald of Van Tassell (the Tadewalds were also his God parents); step-grandfather, Don Bone of Lusk; and other aunts, uncles, cousins, step-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one step-sister, Julie Smith; his grandfather, John Mundlein; maternal great-grandmother, Edna Vorhees and one step-grandmother, Lois Bone.

Wevik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
