Rancher Passes Away Suddenly; Louie Mashek dies Sunday Morning near Belmont

Louie C. Mashek passed away Sunday morning, September 11th, 1949, at his home east of Belmont, following a heart attack, aged 38 years, 3 months and 10 days.

Louie Charlie Mashek, son of Henry and Mary Mashek, was born June 1, 1911 at their farm home near Marsland, Nebraska, where he grew to manhood and spent most of his life associated with his father and brother in farming and stock raising. He served ten months with the U.S. Army during World War II.

On October 9th, 1947, he was united in marriage to Sylvia DeBock of this city and they lived on the Mashek farm near Marsland until 1948,when they purchased the Hoagland place near Belmont, where he was residing at the time of his death.

He was a great favorite among his associates and was a devoted husband, good neighbor and a true friend. He will be greatly missed by his relatives and friends.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and daughter, two brothers, Frank and James of Crawford and one sister, Mrs. Frances Freimuth of Alliance, Nebraska and numerous other relatives and friends. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. Eddy C. Newland. He was buried with military honors, the Crawford Memorial Team having charge of the services at the cemetery.
