Mrs. (Elsie) Jean Stronach Olinger

Mrs. (Elsie) Jean Olinger of 644 Vista Lane, Cheyenne, Wyoming, 82009, passed away at Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Saturday, March 1, 1986, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held Thursday, March 6 at Wiederspahn Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne. They were conducted by the Rev. Donald "Pat" Malone, former minister of the Grace United Methodist Church in Cheyenne for 17 years, now serving in the Delta United Methodist in Delta, Colo.

Jean Stronach Olinger was born January 25, 1916, to Alex and Bella Souter Stronach at Lander, Wy. She received her schooling in Lander, where she also worked for the Weather Bureau and a local abstract office.

November 11, 1939 she was married to Donald "Dogue" Olinger at Lander. They moved to Cheyenne in 1940, where her husband was an engineer with the Wyoming State Highway Department for 44 years. During the war years of 1944 and 1945, they lived in Oak Ridge, TN where she was a secretary at the Hartford Project. Since that time, she has made her home here in Cheyenne.

Mrs. Olinger was a charter member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for over 25 years. She was a member of the X-JWC; an honorary member of the Cheyenne Mineral and Gem Society; and was serving her third term as president of the Cheyenne Chapter of the Wyoming State Archeological Society. She was a member of several bridge clubs for many years. She loved to travel and roam the desert sand hills for minerals and gems, and just being a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; her son, James Kenneth Olinger, of Austin, Tex.; one sister, Mildred Absher of Pueblo, CO; three nieces and one nephew. Her parents and a brother, Kenneth preceded her in death.
