David T. Poage

Funeral services for David T. Poage, 69, were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1989, at the Congregational Church with the Rev. David Kallenbach officiating.

Burial was in Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. Memorial gifts to either the Congregational Church or the Central-Wyo. Cancer Treatment and Hospice Program would be appreciated by the family. Mr. Poage died in Niobrara County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 8, 1989.

He was born Jan. 30, 1920, the son of True W. and Vera (Woolever) Poage in Goshen County, Wyo., and he grew up and went to school in Torrington where he graduated from high school in 1939. He worked with his father in the trucking business before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. He married Gertrude Carroll in Lawton, Okla., on May 10, 1943.

He served with the field artillery in Europe during World War II. The couple later returned to Goshen County where he farmed and did excavating work. In 1949 they moved to a farm southwest of Keeline where he farmed wheat and raised cattle until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Congregational Church in Lusk where he served on the Church Board in several offices; the Weiten Dupes Post No. 4 of the American Legion in Lusk for 25 years; and the Wyoming Wheatgrowers Association; and he served on the Niobrara County School Board for 20 years. He and his wife were active in the Belles and Beaux Square Dance Club.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude, of Keeline; a daughter, Judy Wright of Irvine, Calif.; a son David A. Poage, Rawlins; four grandchildren, Adam and Luke Wright and Rebecca and Rachael Poage; two brothers, Harvey Poage of Torrington; and Glen Poage of Greeley, Colo.; step-mother Olive Poage of Torrington; three step-sisters, Joan Harris of Lost Springs; Jeannine Miller of Torrington; and Irene Knight of Lingle; and a step-brother Jack DesEnfants of Scottsbluff, Neb.. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

The Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington was in charge of arrangements.
