Anna Amelia Gaukel

Rosary services were held for Anna Amelia Gaukel on Monday, Sept. 24, 1984 at 7 p.m. at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Mass of the resurrection was held on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Tony Jablonowski. Interment followed at the Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Royce Nelson, Monty Nelson, Danny Gaukel, Duane Nelson, Berry Nelson and Kenneth Gaukel.

The organ was played by Karen Edinger and Jeraldine Waldock was soloist.

Mrs. Gaukel was born at Burwell, Neb. on Jan. 27, 1887, the daughter of Jacob and Rosina Deafenbaugh. She died Saturday Sept. 22 at the Goshen County Hospital in Torrington.

She attended schools in Burwell. On June 11, 1905 she married Charles Matthew Gaukel at Geranum, Neb. They lived on a farm near Burwell until 1908 when they bought a farm near Weaubleau, Mo. and moved there.

In 1912, they moved back to Burwell and in February, 1914 they took a homestead near Jireh, Wyoming. Her husband died in 1959 and she continued to live on the homestead until 1967 when she moved to Manville. She began living with her children in 1979.

She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church of Lusk.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Allan and an infant son.

She is survived by eight children Emery Gaukel of Keeline; Marie Sperry of Twin Falls, Idaho; Ruby Simon and Anna Nelson, both of Torrington; Margie Patten of Durango, Colo.; Clarence Gaukel of Lakewood, Colo.; Dorothy Hipsley of Jerome, Mich. and Charles Gaukel of Casper.

She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
