Josephine Teresa Shaffer

Josephine Teresa Shaffer, 71, former area resident, died Wednesday, August 19, in Golden, Colorado after an extended illness.

Josephine, the daughter of Tony and Dorothy Teragatto Francescato was born July 30, 1910 in Sunrise. She received her education in the school systems in Evansville, Meadowdale, and Sunrise. She worked at various jobs in Sunrise after graduating from school. She met and married William Andrew Shaffer March 28, 1936 in Lusk, and they lived on a ranch in the Meadowdale area until November 1957, at which time they moved into Guernsey. She worked as a cook for the officers at the National Guard Camp, and also worked as a cook for the Guernsey-Sunrise School. She retired from these jobs in 1972, and has remained living in Guernsey during her retirement years. She was a past member of the Meadowdale Homemakers and a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She had a special love for plants and animals.

She is survived by her husband, Andy, of Guernsey; 2 daughters, Adele Anderson of Torrington, and Ellen Lamb of Manville; a granddaughter, Joan Crowder of Evansville; 1 brother, Wilbur Francescato of Golden, Co.; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 daughter; 4 brothers; 1 sister; and 2 grandchildren.

Rosary services were recited Friday, August 21, at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church by Father Jablanowski. Mass of Resurrection was held Saturday, August 22, at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Jablanowski officiating. Interment was in the Hartville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dante Testolin, Nick Lagos, Elmer Johnson, Tony Balzan, Glenn Stellpflug, and Lendo "Butch" Balzan. Honorary pallbearers were Leo Alexander, Oscar Alexander, Alvin Alexander, Otto Krekeler, Floyd Alexander and Glen Gorman. A memorial has been established to the Wyoming Cancer Society.
