Funeral Services Held Monday for Anna R. Shippen

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna R. Shippen, 87, pioneer resident of this part of Wyoming, were conducted from the Methodist Church in Manville Monday afternoon, at 2:30, with Rev. .Lawrence P. Juell of the Congregational Church of Lusk Officiating.

Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Harry Howard, Mrs. Curtis Baughn, C.W. Pfeifer and Beryl Fullerton, who sang "Asleep In Jesus" and "Now The Day Is Over". Mrs. Emma Richardson was the accompanist.

The casket bearers were Ray Baughn, Ben Martin, Dan Smith, Ira Wilson, Clint Dern and L.C. Stoddard. Internment was made in the Manville Cemetery beside her husband.

Mr. and Mrs. Shippen came to Wyoming 52 years ago and were associated with the early settling up of the Manville community.

About three years ago Mrs. Shippen moved to Norfork, Neb., to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Graham.

Death came to her there on October 26, after being confined to her bed for the past year.

The remains were shipped to Lusk, arriving here on Saturday, and funeral arrangements were in charge of Peet Mortuary.

Among the relatives here for the services were Mrs. Graham and Clair Shippen of Norfork, Neb. and Glen Shippen of Canyonville, Ore.

Anna Roe Grice was born in Nemaha County, Nebraska, August 10, 1858. She was the ninth and last child of Samuel R. and Susan Grice, who came to Nebraska from Castleford, England, in 1857, and was the only member of the family born in America.

She received her education in the public schools of Brownsville, Nebraska and at Peru Normal College, after which she taught school in Nebraska and Kansas for two years, and in Wyoming after her marriage. She was married at Brownsville in 1879, to Charles Ezra Shippen. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom are living.

Mrs. Shippen came to Wyoming in 1893 with her husband and five children, after having resided for a time in Kansas, Montana and Idaho. The family settled on a ranch near Manville. The four younger children were born in Wyoming. Since 1893, Wyoming has been their home except for ten years when the family returned to Nebraska, where they made their home at Cascade on the North Loup River in Cherry county.

For the past three and a half years, Mrs. Shippen has made her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Robert Graham, at Norfork, Neb. She departed this life at Norfork on October 26, 1945.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1928. Her seven living children are: Mrs. Grace Foster, Grant Pass, Ore.; Mrs.Addie Kensinger, Honolulu; Mrs. Ethel Graham, Norfork, Neb.; Stanley, Marysville,Calif.; Gordon, Lander, Wyo.; Glen, Canyonville, Ore.; Clair, Northfork, Neb.

There are twenty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
