Albert E. Anderson Dies of Heart Condition; Services Were Held Monday

Albert E. Anderson died Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital from a heart attack, and funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Peet Mortuary Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Mr. Anderson who came to this community in 1915, suffered a severe heart attack early Sunday morning, Aug. 16, although he had a heart ailment for a number of years before.

The Rev. Raymond P. Hoffman, St. George's Episcopal Church, officiated at the final rites. A mixed quartet comprising Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, Mrs. Emerson Bonner, Lee Johnsonbaugh and Donley Unruh, sang "Til We Meet Again" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Military rites were held at the graveside in the Lusk Cemetery by Wieten-Dupes Post of the American Legion and a firing squad of the Lusk unit of National Guard. Pallbearers were James Hoblit, Archie Voorhees, Fred Hansen, Jim Roberts, George Gibson and Eddie Marks.

Albert Emanuel Anderson was born at Onge, S. Dak. on February 13, 1891, the fifth child of John A. and Matilda Anderson who had immigrated from Sweden. He grew to manhood in the Black Hills of South Dakota and came to Niobrara County in 1915 where he worked on the Tom Bell ranch.

A veteran of World War I, he enlisted in the United States Army on Aug. 9, 1917 at Fort D. A. Russell, Wyo. and was honorably discharged June 27, 1919. He served overseas during the war and took part in the Campagne Marne defensive, the Aisne-Marne offensive, the St Mihiel - offensive , the Meuse-Argonne offensive as a part of Battery E, One Hundred Forty-eight Field Artillery.

Coming back to Niobrara County at the end of the war he again pursued ranch work, later being employed by the Chicago and North Western Railroad.

Sept 18, 1920 he married Miss Jesabelle Adams at Chadron. They were parents of three children; Gilbert who is now in the U.S. Army and will be stationed at Camp Carson, Colo.; Mrs Emma Lathrop and Mrs. Vera Leeling of Lusk. On Oct. 9, 1927 Mrs. Anderson died leaving him with three children to raise. A sister, Mrs. Brent Bruch took the youngest child, Vera, and raised her to young womanhood.

Mr. Anderson married Mrs. Reva Tryon on Sept. 2, 1932. She was the mother of two sons, Bill and Boyd, who have since been adopted by Mr. Anderson. To this union were born four children, Jean, John, and Ralph of the family home in Lusk, and Mrs. Lela Smith of Edgemont, S. Dak.besides one adopted child, Terry of Lusk.

After his second marriage Mr. Anderson still worked on ranches until 1937 when the family moved to Lusk and soon after he became employed with the State Highway Department.

He was forced to quit work with the Department in 1945 due to poor health and spent considerable time in hospitals until 1951 when he became an employee for the Town off Lusk. He was still employed by the Town at the time of his death.

His survivors include his widow and children; two sisters, Mrs. Brent Bruch of Lusk and Mrs. Gertrude Freden of Culver City , Calif.; two brothers, Arthur of Whitewood, S. Dak. and Harold of Spearfish, S.Dak.; 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

M/Sgt. Gilbert W. Anderson was serving in Korea at the time of his father's heart attack and was notified through the efforts of the Red Cross. M/Sgt. Anderson left Korea Tuesday morning and arrived in Denver Sunday morning. He flew by an Army plane to Tokyo. He will be stationed at Camp Carson after a 30 day furlough.

Out-of-town relatives here for the services were; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith of Edgemont; M/Sgt. and Mrs. Gilbert Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Clarence Leeling, Sr. of Whitewood, S.D.; Mrs. Frank Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Leeling, Jr. all of Lead, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sherman, Mrs Joe Hutchinson, and Clifford Sherman all of Valentine, Neb.; Mrs Roy Seigfred and Mrs. Caroline Giinther of Casper, Mrs. Phillip Werner of Riverton; Bill Crane of Denver; and Mr. and Mrs. Dell Crane of Ft. Laramie.
