Helen Magoon dies Monday

Memorial service was conducted here this Wednesday afternoon for Helen Magoon, resident of Niobrara County all of her adult life. Mrs. Magoon died at the Niobrara hospital after being hospitalized only a short time.

She and her late husband W.L. Magoon were in the ranching business northwest of Lusk on the Magoon Ranch which has been breeder of cattle, horses and sheep since 1886. The Magoons also maintained a home in Lusk.

Officiating the funeral was The Rev. Frank Blish. B.P.O. Does Drove No. 64, of which Mrs. Magoon was a charter member, conducted a memorial service.

Services were held at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Music was provided by Minerva Watson, organist, and Joy Kaltenheuser who sang "Honey" and "Seasons in The Sun."

Interment was in the Lusk cemetery. Pallbearers were Bunny Chard, Jim Thompson, Ernie Hansen, George Christian, John Bourret and Russ Thompson.

Honorary bearers were Dick Geyser, Jim Hodgson, Phil Flick, Walt Zerbst, Johnny Lawler and Ray Olafson.

Memorials are to the Senior Center.

Helen Vraspier Magoon was born Nov. 30, 1918, at Verdell, Nebr. She was the daughter of Frank and Katie Vraspier. She attended elementary school in Nebraska, and later moved to Lusk where she met and married W.L. Magoon at Douglas January 30, 1938. They were parents of two children Karen Sides and West Magoon, both of Casper.

Helen was a zealous gardener, had a great love for flowers and maintained a beautiful yard. She was a charter member of the Does and a past president and conductor for many years. She bowled on one of the local teams during the season.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors are her daughter Karen and husband Clayton, grandchildren Sherry and husband Dirk Brandon, Kenny, Holly and a a great-grandson Dustin, her son West and his wife Cathy, all of Casper, two sisters Tillie Rihanek of Verdigree, Nebr., and Beatrice Allen of Lusk; one brother Ray Vraspier of Colton, Ore.

Note: The Social Security Index has Helen Magoon's birth date as November 29, 1918.
