Bessie Blackmore Dies at Age 83

Mrs. Bessie A. Blackmore, 83, a resident of Niobrara County for 53 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Fahy, in Lusk last Thursday after a long illness. Mrs. Blackmore spent several weeks in the Memorial Hospital having been taken to the home of her daughter early in January.

Funeral services were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Peet Chapel with the Rev. Theodore Foster officiating. Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro sang "He Leadeth Me" and "Rock of Ages." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist. Pallbearers were: K. W. Hughes, Edward Hughes, Elmer Johnson, and Gilbert Hughes of Flattop, Lloyd Tschacher of Manville, and L. J. Bass of Lusk. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Born in Mere, England, March 25, 1878, Mrs. Blackmore was the daughter of John and Rachel Chalton Alford. In October 1905 she married George Blackmore at her home in England. Mr. Blackmore had come to the United States a few years earlier and following their marriage, they came to the States, making their home in Illinois for several years. The family came to Wyoming in March 1909 locating near Manville. Later Mr. Blackmore homesteaded in the Willow community, and it was here Mrs. Blackmore made her home until last fall when she moved to Lusk to be near a doctor. Mr. Blackmore died January 24, 1952. That summer she returned to England to visit relatives, a brother and sister who have since died.

Survivors include her daughter and two sons, Doyle of the family home, and Tom of Casper; and two grandchildren. One daughter died in infancy.
