Clyde Blackmore

Clyde Blackmore, 68, a life-long resident of Lusk died October 5 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

Clyde born on October 26, 1911, was the fourth son of William and Lela Blackmore, born at the family ranch south of Lusk. He attended grade school at Royal Valley and graduated from Lusk High School with the class of 1930. He helped his parents on the family ranch until 1941. He married Edna Owens at St. Leo's Catholic Church here on November 2, 1941, and they moved to Lusk where he went to work as a mechanic at Texaco Service Station until June, 1943.

Blackmore served as a combat infantryman in England and Germany. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action and the Purple Heart. Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned to Lusk and went into the service station business. He owned or worked at different stations until 1978 when he retired due to poor health.

Blackmore also drove a school bus for the Niobrara County School District and served as a 4-H leader. He was an active member of the Lusk community, serving on the city council. He was also a member of the V.F.W., the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, a charter member of Elks Lodge #1797, and an active member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.

Rosary service was Monday at Peet Mortuary and funeral services were Tuesday morning at St. Leo's Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernard Bianco officiating.

Karen Edinger was organist and Jeraldine Waldock sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "He".

Interment was at Lusk Cemetery with military honors at graveside by American Legion Post #4. Active casket bearers were Charles Christian, Richard Barnette, Richard Kant, Robert Baribeau, Jerry Walsh and Everett Kilmer. Honorary bearers were members of the Elks, American Legion and the V.F.W.

Blackmore is survived by his wife Edna and three daughters, Mrs. Garry (Janice) Roggow, Casper; Mrs. Tom (Dixie) Thompson, Whitney, Nebr., and Mrs. Jerry (Sherry) Savoian, Reseda, Calif.; and five grandchildren, three brothers; Harold, Gene and Guy and one sister, Anna Mae Lint.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers, Theron, Ed, Clifford, Merlon, Delmar, Leroy and Bobby.

Memorials to St. Joseph's Childrens Home in Torrington would be appreciated by the family.
