Doyle Blackmore

Doyle Blackmore, a resident of the Manville area since 1909, died Friday, April 16, at the Niobrara Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Doyle George Blackmore was born September 26, 1906, in Geneseo, Ill., the first child of George and Bessie Blackmore.

In 1909 the Blackmore family moved to Manville, where they lived until 1913. At that time they homesteaded 13 miles south of Manville in what was to become the Willow Creek Community.

Doyle received his education at the Willow Creek School, near the family ranch. As a young man he helped his parents with the farming and livestock on the ranch. During the harvest season in the late 30"s and early 40"s Doyle operated a threshing machine for neighbors in the Meadowdale, Cedar Top, Flattop, and Willow Creek communities. As Doyle's father's health worsened, Doyle took over the major responsibilities of the Blackmore ranch. After his father's death in 1952, Doyle operated the ranch until the late 1960's when his health no longer allowed him to do so. At this time he sold his livestock and leased the ranch out. He later made his home with his sister, Mrs. Harry Fahy of Lusk.

"Doyle was a good friend and neighbor to all. He always had time to help someone in need and was more than willing to fix things for people. For a time he enjoyed repairing clocks and watches while his sight permitted. He loved to travel in later years as well as attend auction sales to visit with the crowd in attendance" according to his family. Doyle spent the last six months in failing health and was confined to the hospital and nursing home for a large portion of that time.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He is survived by a brother Tom of Alcova; a sister, Winona Fahy of Lusk; a niece, Wilodyne Roberts and her daughter, Neina and Tonya Johnson of Casper; a nephew, John Fahy, his wife Vivian and daughters Rebecca and Michele.
