Ollie Seaman Killed Instantly

Many friends in the area were shocked to hear of the death of Ollie Seaman who was killed instantly in an accident at his ranch near Harrison. He is the father of Mrs. Bob (Shirley) Hladky who lives south of Lusk. He was well known here as being an avid square dancer over the years.

Funeral service was held here at the Methodist Memorial Church last Wednesday afternoon for "Ollie" Seaman who died in an accident at his ranch home 17 miles northwest of Harrison Oct. 29.

The Rev. Wayne Tieszen officiated at the service. Organist Dorothy Todd accompanied Virginia Coffee who sang "Lead Kindly Light." Jack Hunter read the "Cowboy's Prayer" by Badger Clark.

Active bearers were Joe Nunn, Harry Serres Jr., Larry Wickersham, Ed Oldaker, Norrie Wickersham and Don Kraft.

Honorary bearers were Everett Thomas, George Atchison, Dan Jordan, Emery Zimmerman, Harry Zimmerman, Jim Petersen, Bunny Chard, Joe Nunn, Warren Robertson, Bob Fancher, Martin Wasserburger, Bill Coffee, Abe Whiteaker, Bob Jordan, Rex Shoults, Dr. William Munson, and John Hammond.

Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery. Memorials were made to the Harrison Methodist Church and Harrison Ambulance Service.

Prior to the service the Rebekah Lodge served dinner, and following the service cake and coffee were served by members of the square dance club that Seamans belong to.

Jasper Oliver Seaman was born April 21, 1911, at Edgemont, S.D., the son of Samuel and Sarah McKenzie Seaman. He attended schools in rural Sioux County and Harrison, graduating from high school in Harrison. He attended Chadron College for one year. In 1929 he moved to the ranch that was still his home. On May 17, 1934, he was married to Lela Hazel Whitman.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge of Harrison. He served as director and vice president of the Nebraska State High School Rodeo Association for 24 years, He was also a member of the Sioux County Agriculture Society, The Rural Fire Dept., and the Nebraska Stockgrowers Association, Harrison Men's Community Club, and a member of the Country Square dance club since 1952.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, and two brothers.

He is survived by his widow Hazel of the ranch home; three daughters, Shirley Hladky of Lusk, Olita Zimmerman of Harrison, and Judy McKelvey of Torrington; 11 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
