Hattie Brenner

Funeral service for Hattie Brenner, an area resident since 1927, was held at Peet Mortuary Chapel Wednesday with the Rev. Frank Bozart officiating. Mrs. Brenner died at the Niobrara Nursing Home Monday at the age of 92.

Hattie May Brenner was born October 29, 1888, at Eldora, Iowa, the eldest child of John and Ada Meyers Thompson. She attended school and grew to womanhood at Eldora. On January 4, 1907, she and Fred R. Brenner were married. They are the parents of five children.

The Brenner and Thompson families moved to homesteads north of Lance Creek in 1927. While her husband and mother cared for the children and worked on the homestead, Hattie worked for several families near Lusk and Harrison. She also cooked at the Lusk Hospital and the cook shack in Lance Creek for several years. In 1942, the Brenners sold the homestead and moved to Lusk where Mr. Brenner died in August of 1958. Hattie continued to live at her home until failing health forced her to move to the Silver Cliff Hotel, then to the Michael Manor Nursing Home in Douglas. She lived there for several years until the Niobrara Nursing Home opened.

Hattie was a member of The Church of Christ, the American War Mothers, the V.F.W. and the Royal Neighbors.

Minerva Watson was organist as Marilyn Cockreham sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages". Dale Gunn, Al Davenport, Otto Vondra, Walter Schnorenberg, James Brennan and J. T. Bud Shipley were all bearers. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, two infant children, a daughter Fern and sons Darrell and Lyman, two sisters and five brothers. She is survived by a brother Fred Thompson of Lake City, Iowa; a grandson Dick Brenner and two great-grandchildren of Lakewood, Colo.; cousins Nevada Hollifield of Searchlight, Nev., Jill Andre of Greeley, Colo., and Holley Hollifield of Sheridan.
