Florence Henrietta Fernau
FLORENCE FERNAU PASSES AWAY AT DOUGLAS HOSPITAL
MANY LUSKITES SADDENED BY PASSING AWAY OF GIRL TUESDAY NIGHT
Funeral Services at Baptist Church at 3 o'clock This Afternoon; Interment Lusk Cemetery
When the work spread around town Wednesday morning that Florence Fernau, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Fernau had passed away during the night at the Douglas hospital, the community was saddened for because our town is small our neighbors' griefs and sorrows are ours, also.
Although not feeling especially well for a day or two Florence was not taken seriously ill until Monday when a doctor was called and she was found to be suffering from a severe attack of appendicitis.
She was rushed at once to the Douglas hospital where she was operated on but she survived only about 24 hours, dying at 10 o'clock Tuesday night. Her mother and sister, Mrs. R. L. Lowry and husband were at her bedside when the end came. Mr. Fernau and son, Harry were on their way to Douglas but arrived a half hour too late to see her alive.
George Fernau and wife and a cousin, Joe Stricker were also on their way to Douglas from Greybull but arrived after Florence had answered the call.
The sorrowing ones motored down to Lusk, arriving here about noon Wednesday and the body was brought down on the evening train.
Funeral services will be held fro the Baptist church this afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. J. H. Clark officiating. Interment will be made in the Lusk cemetery.
Florence Henrietta Fernau was born in Lusk on August 20, 1908 and passed away at the Douglas hospital May 26, 1925.
The sixteen years of her life had been spent in Lusk where she was surrounded by her devoted parents and brothers and sisters. She was a quiet home-loving girl and had many friends both among the young folks and their elders.
It is hard to understand why a girl just in the bloom of her youth should be taken but surely, somehow, some way it must be right.
There are left to mourn her loss her father and mother, seven brothers: George, Harry, Ivan, Floyd, Dale, Walter and Robert, and three sisters, Mrs. Edith Lowry, Louise and Bonita. A baby brother, Henry, and a little sister, Isabel, have preceded her in death.
The Herald-Standard wishes to join the many friends who extend sympathy to the bereaved ones.
