Floyd Marion McCleerey

Floyd Marion "Fritz" McCleerey was born on Jan. 20, 1908 at Battle Creek, Iowa. He was the eldest of John W. and Margaret (Lloyd) McCleerey. He lived with his parents on a farm in Iowa until they came to Wyoming in Feb. 1910 and homesteaded eight miles from Lusk in the Royal Valley Community. In 1914 the family returned to Iowa. By 1930 Floyd was back in Lusk, going into the trucking business with Art Young.

Floyd married Minnie Bernice Rogers on Dec. 7, 1936 at Hot Springs, S.D. They were the parents of a son, William Leslie, and daughter, Nancy Ann.

In 1953 when Minnie's mother, Emma Rogers, decided to make her home in Lusk, the McCleereys moved to her ranch at the edge of Manville and made it their home.

Floyd's biggest enjoyment in life was fishing. He was a member of the Wyoming Stockgrower's Association and the Farm Bureau.

Floyd passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1990 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital at the age of 82 years and 10 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ralph.

Survivors are his wife, Minnie; son, William, of Manville; daughter, Nancy Fitzwater, of Lusk; grandson, Raymond Fitzwater, of Phoenix, Ariz.; granddaughter, Shelly Fitzwater, of Lusk; two sisters, Wilma Hoy, of Spokane, Wash. and Frances McCoy, of Irrigon, Oregon and two brothers, Owen McCleerey, of Big Timber, Mont. and Earl McCleerey, of Edgewater, Florida.

For those who wish, memorials may be sent to the Lusk Senior Center.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Fri., Feb. 2, 1990, at the Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk with Rev. Scott Grimshaw officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.
