DEATH CLAIMS ROY ROGERS, RESIDENT OF STATE 44 YEARS

Roy Rogers, a pioneer of this community passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Floyd McCleery, 2:30 Sunday afternoon, February 18, at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 26 days.

His death was caused by a paralytic condition which he had suffered for many years having been affected with strokes of paralysis since the fall of 1926. During this time Mr. Rogers was bedfast and was unable to do any labor of any kind. In 1937 he made his home with his youngest daughter, in this city.

Mr. Rogers was a very well known figure in this community having resided here for the past forty-four years. His chief occupation was that of ranching and farming of which he was successful in. During the oil boom, he was appointed night marshal which he served for two years. Also at this time, he was very active in the oil business having had interest.

He was affiliated with the I.O.O.F. Custer Lodge No. 21 of this city.

Funeral arrangements were held in the Peet Chapel 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, February 21st, with Reverend Millard H. Marshall officiating.

The songs "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," Rock of Ages," and "Old Rugged Cross" were sung by the quartet J. M. Hungate, Mrs. Joe Danaher, Brian Dougherty, and Mrs. Ab DeCastro, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. J. P. Watson.

Members of the Odd Fellow Lodge having charge of the committal service at the grave were Arthur Thompson, Bennie Updike, H. A. Carpenter and Menno Kaan.

Active pallbearers were: Jerry Shrove, Otis Bump, J. R. Barnes, M. P. Vollmer, Ray Wilson, and Roy McLain. Honorary pallbearers were: Ernest Millburn, Frank Barrett, Alfred Johnson, Harry Hargraves, Frank DeCastro, and Merlin Barnes. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery.

OBITUARY
Roy Leslie Rogers was born near Havana, Mason county, Illinois, September 23, 1874. He was the fourth son of Bernard Rogers. The Rogers family moved from Illinois to Missouri in 1880, and one year later to Eastern Nebraska. In the spring of 1806 they moved to Wyoming, locating near Manville. In 1900 they moved north of Lusk on Indian Creek where they took up ranching, later moving to Lusk.

On April 7, 1915 he was married to Miss Emma Damme at Wayne, Nebr., they taking residence north of Lusk again ranching until 1918 when they moved to Lusk. At this time, Mr. Rogers served as night marshal for two years, and was active in the oil business. In 1923 they again moved to take up ranching south of Lusk.

In the fall of 1926 he was stricken with paralytic strokes, his health failing fast during this time. He passed away at the home of his youngest daughter on February 18th, 1940 at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 26 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Emma Rogers, two daughters, Minnie McCleery and Wyoma Huey, two brothers, Foster of this city, and Walter of Tekamah, Nebr., and many nieces and nephews.
