Death Takes Pioneers During Past Week

Friends were grieved when word reached Lusk Wednesday morning that Fred (Bush) Boyd had passed away in Denver that morning.

Mr. Boyd had been a resident of Lusk for many years, but had recently gone to Denver, where he was engaged in defense work.

Although he has been in poor health for several years, he and Mrs. Boyd were visiting in Lusk about a month ago, but he was taken very ill shortly after his return to Denver.

Mr. Boyd's daughters, Mrs. Roy Cork and Mrs. Laura Shoopman, accompanied by Mr. Cork, left for Denver Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Peet Chapel, with Masonic rites at the grave. Interment will be made in the Lusk cemetery.

Deceased is survived by two brothers in Lusk, S. W. Boyd and George Boyd, who recently returned from Denver where they had gone to see him.

Fred Boyd, Former Lusk Resident, Is Claimed at Denver

Word this week of the death in Denver, Colo., of Alfred Arthur Boyd, former Lusk resident, came to relatives here, after he had succumbed to a heart ailment Wednesday, January 5th, at his home in that city. Mr. Boyd, for many years an employee at the Boyd Chevrolet Co., in Lusk had together with his wife Lula transferred their residence to Denver over a year ago, in hopes that a change of climate might prove beneficial to his health. Such was not the case, however, and for the past two months, his condition was such that he was almost constantly confined to his bed. At the time of his passing, Mr. Boyd had reached the age of 59 years, six months and 20 days.

Surviving Mr. Boyd are his wife, Lula; one daughter, Mrs. Laura Shoopman; a step-daughter, Mrs. Roy Cork; two brothers, S. W. and George, all of Lusk, besides a host of friends and other relatives.

Funeral services for the deceased have been planned for Sunday, January 9th, 1944, and will be conducted from the chapel of the Peet mortuary at two o'clock p.m. Rev. Clyde Hampton, pastor of the First Baptist church of this city, will speak the final words of comfort, and members of the Harmony Lodge No. 26, A. F. and A. M. will be in charge of the service. A detailed obituary will be given in these columns next week.
