Dr. Daryl James Kaan, 49, of Rock Springs, Wyoming passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Dr. Kaan was born October 31, 1960 in Lusk, Wyoming, the son of Lawrence Albert Kaan and MaryEllen Wenner Kaan. He attended schools in Lusk, Wyoming and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1979. He graduated from Creighton University with a Bachelors degree in 1983 and Creighton University School of Medicine in 1989. Dr. Kaan completed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, Texas in 1993. Dr. Kaan was a United States Air Force Veteran who served from July 7, 1993 until September 30, 1997, reaching the rank of Major. While in the service he received the Air Force Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award.
Dr. Kaan married Tina Caballero in Omaha, Nebraska on May 23, 1987. Dr. Kaan was a Physician at College Hill Women's Health Center. His interests included spending time with his family, traveling, scuba diving, golfing, Cub Scouts and avidly supporting the Cowboy Joe Club and attending University of Wyoming athletic events.
Survivors include his wife Tina and son Christian of Rock Springs, Wyoming, son Nathaniel of Laramie, Wyoming; his mother MaryEllen Brightwell of Rock Springs, Wyoming; two brothers Dennis Kaan and wife Cheryl of Sterling, Colorado and Dale Kaan of Boulder, Wyoming; one sister Jennifer Page and husband P.J. of Laramie, Wyoming; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Kaan; his paternal grandparents Menno and Mabel Kaan; his maternal grandparents James and Tillie Wenner.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to service time.
The family of Dr. Kaan respectfully suggests that donations in his memory be made to the Cowboy Joe Club, 1000 East University Avenue, Department 3414, Laramie, Wyoming 82071.
