Funeral services for Tom Bruegger, 46, of Lusk, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Mon., Mar. 17, 2014, at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium. Mr. Bruegger passed away at his home Mon., Mar. 10, 2014.

Tommy James Bruegger

A celebration of life for Tommy James Bruegger was held Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds in Lusk. Tom lost his battle to brain cancer on Monday, March 10th at his home.

Tom was born November 24, 1967 in Douglas, Wyoming. He was the third son born to parents Fred and Jan (Thompson) Bruegger of Keeline, Wyoming.

He attended Niobrara County High School in Lusk, graduating in 1986. He played basketball and participated in Future Farmers of America. Following graduation he began his ranching career on the Bruegger Ranch south of Keeline. On August 24, 1990 Tom married Traci Hales. They made their home on the family ranch where they raised their two children, Thompson Taylor, 19, and Hailey Brooke, 17. His kids brought him great pleasure as he enjoyed spending time with them every day and tried to make each day a learning adventure.

An accomplished mechanic, Tom was capable of repairing everything from windmills to plows and kept the fleet of ranch pick-ups in running order. Tom was a cattleman through and through, and took great pride in the cattle that he raised and marketed. As an experienced motorcycle rider, Tom would put a cow anywhere he wanted her to be. The perfectionist that he was is evident throughout the ranch. He took pride in maintaining the fence lines, the tree belt, and the general appearance of the ranch. Tom felt any job worth doing was worth doing right.

Archery hunting was one of Tom's loves. He often hunted elk, deer and antelope, and even accomplished harvesting several record book antelopes. Coyote calling was a favorite past time that brought him true enjoyment. Tom was often found reloading his own ammunition so he was sure to have an accurate shot.

Tom is survived by his wife, Traci, son Thompson and daughter Hailey, his mother Jan Bruegger and brothers Shannon (Teri), Shawn (Kim) and Travis (Lisa), and his nephews and niece. He was preceded in death by his father Fred and nephew Colten Bruegger, grandparents Fred and Martha Bruegger, and Jim and Harriet Thompson.
