Bud D. Butler, Resident 60 Years, Dies Sat.

Bud. D. Butler, a resident of this area for 60 years, died in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Hot Springs Saturday, one day before his 70th birthday. Mr. Butler had been ill with emphysema for several years.

Funeral services were held from Peet Chapel in Lusk Tuesday with the Rev. James Davis of the Congregational Church officiating. Mrs. G. L. Pfeifer and Mrs. R. C. Bafford sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. A. E. DeCastro was organist. Casketbearers were Carl Bruch, Paul Heany, John Robinson, John Butler and Alan Butler. Mr. Butler was born in Greenfield, Iowa April 17, 1896, to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Butler. In 1906 the Butler family came west in a covered wagon and homesteaded near Agate, Nebr., in what is now Sioux County. Mr. Butler grew to manhood in this area and around Crawford, where he worked until on May 20, 1918, when he enlisted in the Army and served with the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe in the Corps of Engineers.

Following his discharge Mr. Butler came to Lusk where he worked at various jobs including a railroad construction foreman, ranchhand, and numerous building projects in the Lance Creek oil fields. He later established a ranch northeast of Lusk.

On October 20, 1930, he and Iva Evelyn Roby were married and they moved to Lusk where he worked as a carpenter-contractor. They were the parents of four children: David of Denver, Mrs. Birdena Butler McCabe of Torrington, John E. of Cheyenne and Alan of the Navy Air Corps now at Moffit Field, Calif.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and International Order of Odd Fellows.

In addition to his widow and all four children, he is survived by two brothers , Frank L. of St. Helena, Calif. and William E. of New Plymouth, Idaho; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Courtney of Tingley, Iowa; six grandchildren.
