Charles Quinn Heumier

Charles Quinn Heumier was born in Lusk Feb. 2, 1923, to Charles Herman and Faye Mershon Heumier. He attended Lusk schools, graduating from Niobrara County High School in 1941.

He was a glider pilot in the Army Air Corps, serving from July 1944 until February 1946. On Jan. 1, 1950, he married Ruth Hatcher in Laramie, where they were both attending the University of Wyoming. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife management in June 1950. He was employed as a Wyoming State Game Warden until 1958.

At that time he joined the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a special agent in law enforcement. He retired in 1978 and he and his wife moved to Lusk. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed as a youngster. He was active at the Niobrara Senior Center, serving two terms as president of the board of directors.

In January 1990, they moved to Otis Orchards, Wash. On May 11, 1991, they traveled to Olympia, Wash., where a granddaughter had been born at 5:45 a.m. that day. On May 12, he had a massive heart attack and died instantly at his daughter's home in Olympia. Memorial services were held at Valley Bible Church in Spokane on May 17.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, by five children and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Harriet, of Cheyenne, and brothers, Robert of Torrington and Don of Otis Orchards, Wash.
