Rena Alexander Funeral Held in Lusk Friday

Rena May Alexander 90, died at Casper Jan 26. Funeral service was held in Peet Chapel Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Chan Bayne of the Manville Community Church officiating. Mrs. Edna DeCastro, organist accompanied Bobbie Park and Sheryl Jugler as they sang , "God Will take Care of You." Mrs. Park also sang "How Great Thou Art" and Mrs. Jugler sang "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" Casket bearers were sons Floyd Alexander, Alvin Alexander, Leo Alexander and Oscar Alexander and grandsons Dan Alexander and Eldon Alexander. Burial was in the Manville Cemetery.

Rena May Valentine was born August 26th, 1885, at Lowel, Carney Co., Neb., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R Valentine. The family lived at Regan and Wallance, Neb., where she attended school, went horseback riding or in a one-horse cart.

In 1902 the family consisting of her parents, two brothers Lynn and Oscar and three sisters Viola, Pearl and Rena May moved to Wesier Id., by immigrant train. The next 3 1/2 years was spent in Idaho and Oregon, and then because of poor health and her father the family returned to Nebraska by wagon train.

Miss Valentine was baptized into the Methodist church at the age of 14 years. She was employed by the University Experiment Station at North Platte and was a seamstress. Mush of her life was spent in this occupation along with crocheting, painting and all kinds of needlework.

She married George Alexander at her parents home at Eddy Neb., Jan. 30, 1907. They were the parents of six children one dying at birth. In 1916 the family came to Wyoming by wagon train. They homesteaded in Muskrat Canyon in Goshen County were they engaged in farming and ranching. A daughter was born there. Later they moved to the Meadowdale community to be closer to school. One year was spent on the Bushnell place north of Lance Creek.

In 1927 the family moved to Manville as three of the children were ready for high school. Mr. Alexander was employed by C&NW railroad until his death in June 1944. Mrs. Alexander made her home in Manville until 1973 when because of poor health she was moved to Michael Manor Nursing home in Douglas. Recently she broke her hip and was taken to the Casper hospital.

Mrs. Alexander is survived by her four sons, Leo of Fort Morgan Colo., Alvin and Floyd of Manville, and Oscar of Mills; one daughter Esther Bartos, Keeline; one sister Mrs. Roger (Pearl) Eaton, Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, one great-grandson, three brothers and one sister.
