Early Resident of Manville, George Alexander, Dies

A long-time resident of Manville, George Alexander, 63, passed away at the family home in that community on Thursday, June 1.

Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel in Lusk on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. C. B. Doughty of the Methodist Church of Manville officiating.

Music was furnished by Mrs. O. M. Rasmusen, Mrs. H. D. Howard, Dan Christian and Lafe Culver, Jr., with Mrs. Lester Meade presiding at the instrument. "In The Garden," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "God Will Take Care of You," were rendered.

Interment was made in the Manville Cemetery and the casket bearers were Curtis Baughn, John Boatright, Fred Hansen, Sidney Baughn, Joe Panno and Sam Blaney.

Mr. Alexander had been seriously ill for about three weeks and gradually grew worse until his death at 4:40 p.m. last Thursday.

He had been employed on the maintenance of way crew of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company for many years, working out of Manville.

George Alexander was born at Keith, Banff County, Scotland, on April 29, 1881, the son of George and Jane Alexander. He came to the United States with is mother, sister and grandparents at the age of two years and settled in Knox County, Nebraska, where he made his home with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Grant, and grew in manhood there.

When 24 years old he moved to North Platte, Neb., where he resided for the next ten years.

He was married to Rena May Valentine at Eddie, Neb., on January 30, 1907, and five children were born to this union.

In 1916 the family moved to Goshen County, Wyoming, where Mr. Alexander farmed and ranched for 11 years, then moved to Manville, where he has since resided.

He was 63 years, 1 month and 1 day of age at the time of his demise, and was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother and sister.

Those who survive him are his wife, Rena; one daughter, Mrs. Esther Bartos of Keeline, and four sons, Leo Arthur, of Houston, Texas; Alvin George and Floyd Irvin of Manville, Wyo., and Oscar Floyd of the United States Army, now serving in Iceland; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Clark, Casper, Wyo.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Joe Foy of Flattop, Wyo., and Mrs. George Main of Scottsbluff, Neb.; one half-brother, Dan Tenny of Sterling, Colo.; ten grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
