Charles V. Lee, Former Prominent Niobrara Resident, Dies Tuesday

Charles V. Lee, 70, prominent resident of Lance Creek for 23 years, and valuable member of the Niobrara County School Board from 1950 to 1956 during the years of transition to a single county school district, died at the Goshen County Hospital in Torrington Tuesday morning.

Funeral service will be held at the Peet Chapel Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Charles Vincent Lee was born at Tyndall, S.D., March 18, 1903, the son of George and Nellie (Cullen) Lee. The family homesteaded in the Van Tassell area in 1911 and in the Lance Creek Community in 1912. Mr. Lee attended schools at Van Tassell, at Tyndall, and was graduated from high school at Manville.

He married Elizabeth Margaret Lamb at the Silver Cliff Hotel in Lusk May 13, 1922, by the minister of the Congregational Church.

Mr. Lee went to work for Union Oil Company at Manville in 1922, and Union later sold to Continental. During his working years the family lived at Lance Creek, LaVoy, Wyo., and Ft. Collins, Colo. He retired in 1959. He had resided at Lance Creek for 23 years prior to his moving to Torrington in 1966.

In addition to his service on the school board, Mr. Lee served on the election board at Lance Creek for many years. He was a past master of Harmony Masonic Lodge at Lusk and a past patron of the former Mariposa Chapter Order of Eastern Star at Manville as well as member of Torrington Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges. He had also been an active member of the Black Gold Rebekah and Odd Fellow Lodges at Lance Creek. He was an active member of the Community Covenant Church at Lance Creek.

Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth; two daughters, Margaret K. Lee of Torrington, and Mrs. Tom (JoAnn) Rasmussen of Glenrock; three sons, Charles V. Lee of Ventura, Calif.; George A. Lee of Riverton; Vernon E. Lee of the Island of Borneo; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters died previously.
