Ellen P. Brown

Funeral services for Ellen P. Brown, age 96, will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 3 at The United Methodist Church with Reverend Ora Dailey officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Ellen died at the Restorative Care unit at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb., Oct. 30.

Ellen was born April 11, 1910 at Smith Center, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Allen) Pugsley. In 1915 the family moved to Goshen County and settled on a homestead in the Moore Springs area west of Jay Em. She attended school at Moore Springs in the school that her father helped build.

Ellen worked for neighbors for a few years and then on Feb. 14, 1931, she married Kermit Brown at Lusk. The couple farmed and ranched in the Moore Springs Community until 1971 when Kermit died and Ellen moved to Torrington. In 1979 she received her GED at Eastern Wyoming College and she was Valedictorian of her class. Ellen continued at EWC and earned her Associate Degree in 1984.

She was a member of The United Methodist Church where she was a member of United Methodist Women. Ellen was a member of the Senior Friendship Center Sunbonnet Gals for 13 years and she also did volunteer work at Diversified Services for 13 years. She was an avid reader and loved to garden and sew. She sewed clothes and quilts. At Christmas time she wrote short stories of her life and gave them to her children.

Survivors include six daughters, Edith Rush and her husband Richard of Guernsey, June Hughes and her husband Jack of Torrington, Mona Kay Williams of Torrington, Leda Ann Warren and her husband Lester of Riverton, Wyo, Dolly Heyl of Torrington, Jeanie Martinez and her husband Ray of Cheyenne, one son Clarence (C.C.) Brown and his wife Lori of Laramie, one sister Rose Sjoholm of Saint Louis, 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and three grandchildren.

Memorials have been established to Diversified Services or Eastern Wyoming College Foundation for Scholarships.
