Jim Phipps, Long Resident Here, Dies Thurs.

Jim Phipps, son of James Alex and Sarah T. Phipps, died January 4 at West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff after a lingering illness at the age of 67.

He was born November 18, 1905, at the Lickett Creek Ranch and spent his entire life here, except for a short time at Meadow Grove, Neb., and Piney Creek, N.C.

He married Irene Hopkins on December 26, 1934, at Scottsbluff, and a daughter and a son were born.

Jim operated the family ranch after his father died in 1934 and lived there until 1966 when his health caused him to retire and move to Harrison.

He served many years on his local school board, and on the board of directors of the Federal Land Bank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife Irene; a daughter Jerry Sue; a son James Arthur; two brothers, Julian of Harrison and Cecil of Spokane; and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at Memorial United Methodist church in Harrison with the Rev. Larry Shrout officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Hall was organist and accompanied a quartet of Mrs. Louise Serres, Mrs. Charles Mumby, Mrs. Allen Grimm and Mrs. John Skavdahl as they sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Under His Wing."

Pallbearers were Rocky Phipps, Rodney Phipps, Bob Phipps, Terry Nies, Tom Broderick, and Vernon Schaefer. Honorary pallbearers were George Sykora, Lyle Lewis, Frank Parsons, Raymond Riley, Bryan Larson, Pete Nunn, John Broderick, Jack Parsons, Ted Tipton and Robert Mann.

Among those from away who were here for the service were Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Phipps and Gary of Glenrock, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. William Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. George Krueger, Hot Springs, S.D.; Mrs. Lillian Sperry of Mitchell; Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Larsen of Scottsbluff; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ferguson of Morrill.
