Barbara Rees

Memorial service for Barbara Rees was conducted Friday afternoon at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Mrs. Rees died Sept. 27 at Dallas, Texas.

Barbara Lucille Petz Rees was born in Douglas on August 10, 1929, to pioneer residents of Niobrara County, Edna and Henry Petz.

She received her early education in Niobrara County Schools, graduating from Lusk High School in May, 1946. While in high school, she was very active in student organizations. Following graduation she attended the University of Wyoming. On Sept. 1, 1948, she and John J. Rees of Laramie were married in a garden ceremony at the Petz residence in Lusk. They were the parents of one son, Randall Henry.

During her residence in Lusk, she was an avid supporter of community activities and was also a member of Niobrara County Cowbelles (Group 1) and the Wyoming Stockgrowers Association. At one time, she also engaged in the operation of the local Ford Agency.

At the time of her death, she was a resident of Dallas, Texas, retaining her family home in Lusk.

The Rev. Frank Blish officiated at the October 1 memorial service for Mrs. Rees. Elizabeth Craske was organist.

Her husband's profession took the family to Cincinnati, Ohio.

In addition to being both wife and mother, Mrs. Rees was also employed as a fashion model for the John Powers Agency and continued her great interest in music as an accomplished pianist.

A few years later the family moved to Denver, and following the death of her parents she returned to Lusk, where she lived in the family home, while continuing the operation of the family ranch until it was sold last year.

Pallbearers were Robert Templeton, Bob Metcalf, Gene Lenz, Charles Bruch, Ed Boner, Bill Clark, Don Whiteaker and Vern Modine. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her son Randall Rees of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; a sister, Greta Petz Alexander of Casper; cousins, Charlene Scace Beach of Laramie and Ted Scace of Calif.; and one niece and one nephew.
