Edna R. Voorhees

Funeral services for Edna R. Voorhees, 92, will be held Wed. Oct. 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Peet Mortuary. Rev. Scott Grimshaw officiating. Burial will follow at the Lusk Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 15, 1896 in Tilden, Neb. to James Marion Rightmire and Minnie Belle Moore. She grew up and attended the schools at Tilden, Neb.

She came to Wyoming in 1914 to homestead with her parents in Sunshine Valley in North Goshen County.

Rightmires were neighbors to the south of Archie Voorhees' homestead, he met Edna at a dance and they were married in Lusk, Wyo. Sept. 27, 1916. They had two daughters, Alice Leimser, and Rosemary Tadewald, both of Lusk.

Archie and Edna lived on Archie's homestead till 1920. They farmed and raised a few cattle, they then moved to a rented place until 1923 at that time they went to work for Granville Tinnen on the 010 Bar ranch. Edna helped Mrs. Tinnen with the house work and did the cooking for the ranch hands. Early in 1926 they moved to Node and worked for the C&NW railroad on the section crew.

In 1927 they bought their home at 734 Linn St. in Lusk. Edna worked at the Hollon Cabin Camp for a number of years. Later she took in ironing and cleaned houses. Her life was devoted to her family, her love of flowers and her vegetable garden, until she entered the Niobrara County Nursing Home on Oct. 10, 1984.

Edna is survived by her daughters, Alice Leimser, and Rosemary Tadewald. Five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant brother, her parents, one grandchild, and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to Niobrara County Nursing Home.
