William Harvey Dies in Seattle

William Wesley Harvey, father of Mrs. Fae H. Lynn of Lusk and one of the few remaining pioneers of the West, died April 27 in Seattle at the age of 95 years.

W. W. Harvey, as he was popularly known, was born March 14, 1856, the son of Robert Greenleaf Harvey and Sophia Rouse Harvey, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., a pioneer fur trading center.

When a child, William Wesley with his family traveled by covered wagon from Wisconsin to Meadow Grove, Nebr. They ferried across the Missouri River at Sioux City, Ia., where the father homesteaded three miles north of Meadow Grove in the vicinity of Tilden, Nebr.

W. W. Harvey was married to Martha Elizabeth Rightmire of Tilden Dec. 13, 1884. To them were born six children.

In 1886 the Harveys homesteaded near Nenzel. Nebr. While in community he taught school. In 1896 he and his family moved to Tilden and five years later to South Sioux City, Nebr. Many of these years he spent as district manager of the De Laval Separator Co. In Sioux City he operated a grocery store for several years.

The family left Sioux City in 1914 and moved to Node. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey resided south of Node until 1922 when they moved west to be with their sons, who had settled in Tacoma, Wash. The W. W. Harvey family moved to Seattle in 1937 where they spent their remaining years.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Tacoma in 1934, Mrs. Lynn of Lusk has made a trip nearly every year in the last 10 years to visit her aging parents.

In the spring of 1948 and in 1949 he made the trip from Seattle to So. Sioux City and Omaha, Wyoming and Denver to visit relatives and old friends.

He was an active church worker and member of the Methodist church. He was a member of the Masons, I.O.O.F. and Workman Lodges. Mr. Harvey had suffered a broken hip a year ago and had been bedfast since that time.

Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, on Nov. 15, 1947 in Seattle; one daughter, Mrs. Nina Olds of Node, May 10, 1922; his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Dallas, Portland. Ore.; three daughters, Mrs. Fae H. Lynn, Lusk; Mrs. Maude Church, So. Sioux City. Nebr.; and Mrs. Wilma Williams, Concrete, Wash.; two sons, Frank Harvey, Seattle; Hanford (Jack) Harvey, Seattle; 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.

Also the following relatives in Lusk survive: a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Scott, and the nieces and nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Voorhees, Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Leimser, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Tadewald.
