Buzz Humphreys Dies Here Thursday Aft.

Just as The Herald is going to press word reaches us that Buzz Humphries who has been very ill with pneumonia passed away at the Lusk Hospital about three thirty this (Thursday) afternoon.

Mr. Humphries was stricken very suddenly and was taken to the hospital on Monday but has grown steadily worse until death claimed him this afternoon.

No details are known at this time but will be published in next week's issue.

Mr. Humphries is survived in Lusk by his wife and two children and a sister, Mrs. Claire Rice.

"Buzz" Humphreys Is Laid to Rest

The funeral of William Smith Humphreys, commonly known as "Buzz," who died at the Lusk Hospital of pneumonia last Thursday, February 11, at 4:00 p.m., was held from the First Baptist Church in Lusk at 1:30 o'clock, Sunday, February 14, with Rev. P. H. Evans officiating. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery, with George Earl Peet of the Peet Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Music at the funeral was rendered by a quartet composed of J. M. Hungate, Ford B. Kuns, Mrs. Avery Smith, and Mrs. Abdon DeCastro. Songs rendered were "Old Rugged Cross," "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Does Jesus Care."

Relatives from distant points attending were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sinn from Sheridan; Mrs. Sinn is a sister of the deceased; Gurney Humphreys and Benny Humphreys, brothers, and Mrs. Nettie Cosgrove and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Murphy, all from Reliance, South Dakota. These ladies are sisters of the deceased; Mrs. Ida Hemphill, sister, from Lower Brule, South Dakota; Mrs. Fred Myer, a niece, and Mrs. Rowen, from Wamsutter, Wyo.

The mother of deceased, Mrs. D. M. Humphreys, of Sheridan, was unable to attend on account of poor health. Also a sister, Mrs. Mabel Fogarty, was unable to be present.

The pallbearers were Monzie Humphreys, Benny Humphreys, Gurney Humphreys, all brothers of the deceased, and Ed Sinn, A. J. Murphy and C. S. Rice, brothers-in-law.

Mr. Humphreys was 31 years, six months and 8 days old at the time of his death, which was the first death in the family of nine children.

William Smith Humphreys was born near Reliance, South Dakota, July 23, 1806. He was reared and spent most of his life in the vicinities of Van Tassell and Jireh, Wyo. He was reared by a devout Christian mother and had firm confidence in God and a better life to come. He was well known in Eastern Wyoming and Western Nebraska as an expert bronc rider and rodeo performer. On April 30, 1926, he was united in marriage to Miss Jessie June Hughes. To this union were born two daughters, Betty Jean and Lita Rose. He was foreman on the Musser-Moseler cattle ranch in the sand hills near Rushville, Neb. He also worked for the Ohio and Argo oil companies. He died at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 1937. Leaves to mourn his loss his wife and two daughters, his mother, five sisters, three brothers and many friends.
