Infant Son of Lance Creek Couple Dies

Gerry Cortez Humphreys, 22-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Monzie Humphreys of Lance Creek, died Sunday morning at the Lusk Hospital following an emergency operation performed Friday night, for an intestinal obstruction, in an effort to save the baby's life.

Dr. W. E. Reckling, who resorted to surgery in an attempt to save the baby's life, reported that this was an emergency operation which was made necessary from an infection of the abdomen. The little boy was the first baby delivered in Lusk by Dr. Reckling when he began to practice here.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Baptist Church of Lusk, with Rev. Farrar officiating. Mrs. Elis, Mrs. C. E. Marvin, Mrs. Avery Smith and Mrs. Farrar, accompanied by Mrs. J. P Watson, sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "Asleep in Jesus," "Jewels." Pallbearers were Dona Hoblet, Phyllis Murphy, Laura Chambers and Mary Lou Agnew. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery, and the Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
