Marie F. Korhonen

Funeral services for Marie F. Korhonen, 100, were held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Marvin Temme officiating. Burial followed in the Valley View Cemetery, where her body will rest until the Resurrection. Marie died Nov. 5, 2008, at Community Hospital in Torrington.

Marie was born June 21, 1908, in Lincoln, Neb., the third of nine children of Alexander and Katherina Maria (Dreuth) Frosheiser. She received Christian baptism in infancy and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. From her teens she was a church organist and Sunday school teacher.

She grew up on a homestead near Keeline, Wyo., and graduated from Manville High School in 1925. She taught in Niobrara County elementary schools for 10 years. In 1935 she married Uno J. Korhonen, a native of Superior, Wyo. Their marriage was blessed with four children. The Korhonen family came to Torrington in 1946. Marie received her B.S. degree from the University of Wyoming in 1962. She retired in 1973 after 18 years of teaching third grade at Lincoln School.

Marie was an active member of her church for many years, a volunteer at the Goshen Care Center, a member of Retired Teachers, a gardener, a needleworker and a bridge player.

Marie is survived by two sons, John (Elizabeth) Korhonen of Aiken, S.C., and Ray Korhonen of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Betty (Bill) Law of Torrington; six grandchildren, Charles (Tammy) Kenyon of Torrington, John (Deb) Kenyon of Stephensville, Mich., Kisa (Tommy) Raye of Bogart, Ga., Mary Paige (Erik) Kurilla of Burke, Va., Alicia (Jeff) Ayres of Lehi, Utah, and Trevor Law of Laramie, Wyo.; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Lingwood of Florida and Katherine McKinnis of Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Alice Marie Kenyon; two grandchildren; and six siblings.
