Services for Henry Kraft Held Monday

Henry Kraft, 55, and a resident of the northern part of the county for many years, died at the Spencer Hospital Friday, Nov. 26, as the result of complications following an operation.

He was born December 26, 1892 at Elmsharn, Germany, the youngest of seven children of Gaston and Margretta Kraft.

When Henry was three months old, his family came to the United States on their way to Canada. A friend in Sioux County, Nebr. persuaded them to stop there. They settled on a place in the Hat Creek Valley and it was there that Henry grew to young manhood.

At an early age he was baptized in the Lutheran Church.

After the death of his father, the mother and children operated the home place for a time. When they sold the place about 1915, Henry filed on a homestead on Plum Creek, about 14 miles east of Hat Creek, Wyo. along the old Cheyenne and Deadwood trail. The family is still living at this location, which they have built into one of the nice ranches of the vicinity.

His mother lived with him on the homestead for a time. When her health began to fail, she went to California to live with her daughter, and there she passed away.

He was married May 17, 1924 to Miss Inez Barnhizel of Windsor, Mo. To them were born five children: Robert, who was killed in action February 7, 1945; Ella May, who died in infancy; Donald; Thelma, and Barie Lee.

Besides his wife and children, others surviving are two brothers, John and Carl of Layle, Mont.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Witt and Mrs. Anna Lowry of Los Angeles, Calif., and Miss Helen Kraft of Norfolk, Nebr., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held from the Peet Mortuary Monday afternoon, Nov. 29, at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.

Miss Neoma Taylor sang "The Old Rugged Cross" as a solo and a trio, composed of Mrs. Sam Thomas, Jr., and Miss Phyllis Johns and Miss Taylor sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Gerald Bardo as accompanist.

Old time friends who conveyed the remains to their last resting place were Orval Dryer, Joe Klemke, Milo Wolff, Sam Thomas, John Swope and E. R. Whitman.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
