Vina A. Cook

Vina A. Cook, 54, of Hat Creek, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1993 of a heart attack.

She was born Nov. 24, 1938 in Cheyenne, Wyo. to Emile and Lola Lacey. She attended school at Chugwater where she graduated in 1955.

She then attended the University of Wyoming and worked in Laramie where she met Edmond Cook. They were married Jan. 30, 1958, in Hot Springs, S. D.

For several years, they lived in the Hat Creek area, where their daughter, Tena was born in 1962. She was a 4-H leader and member of the Hat Creek Ladies Club.

After moving to Laramie, Cook worked as the manager of Jack and Jill Preschool in Laramie and was later a librarian at Pine Bluffs, Wyo., Stapleton, Neb. and Torrington, Wyo. She especially enjoyed providing storytime for the children and helping older students with research projects.

In the mid-1970's, she was a school board member at Henry, Neb.

Over the years she continued her work with 4-H. She also held many different teaching and leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints.

In 1984, she and Ed moved back to the ranch north of Lusk. In addition to helping operate the ranch, she participated in the Rawhide pageant, was a member of the Hat Creek election board, a member of the Niobrara County Historical Society and a member of the Wyoming Pioneer Association.

She enjoyed family gatherings, crocheting afghans and doilies, gardening and genealogy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Emile Lacy; her stepfather, Harold Mabie; her mother, Lola Mabie, and her brother, Jack Lacey.

Survivors include her husband, Edmond of Hat Creek; daughter Tena Gould and son-in-law Pat Gould of Chadron, Neb; two sisters and their husbands, Betty and Dale Collings of Cheyenne and Loreen and Junio Stephah of rural Cheyenne; a sister-in-law Yvonne Lacey of Phoenix, Ariz.; plus several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established for the restoration of the Hat Creek Stage Station. Gifts may be sent to the Niobrara County Historical Society. Bader-Peet Mortuary of Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
