Pioneer Resident Mrs. Flossa Mill Died in Douglas

Mrs. Dave (Flossa) Mill, 81, pioneer resident of this area died Wednesday, April 1, at the Michael Manor Nursing and Convalescent Home in Douglas. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Peet Mortuary. The Rev. Dean Addington of St. George's Episcopal Church of Lusk officiated. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Dean Glandt and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro as they sang "Abide With Me."

Casket bearers were Pete Hansen, Clifford Wood, Jim Reed, Ed Cook, Ed Strube and Roy Johnson.

Honorary bearers were Bob Scott, Earl Ball, Lou Osborn, Reuben Johnson, Ed Hescoe, John Goddard, Harry Vickory, and Lou Bass.

She was born July 26, 1889, at Omaha, Neb., to Charles and Lizzie Cogeshall. She received her early schooling in Omaha. The family moved to Crawford, Neb., in 1909 and later to Lusk in 1910 where they homesteaded near the Bryant Place east of Hat Creek.

September 14, 1914, she and David L. Mill of Hat Creek were married. They lived on a homestead a mile north of the Mill ranch. The couple's only child, a daughter Lola Bertha born October 20, 1916 died in infancy.

They sold their ranch holdings to his brother George Mill and moved to Deadwood, S. Dak., in 1941. They purchased the Black Hills Saddlery Shop at Spearfish, S. Dak., in the fall of 1950.

The couple were on vacation in Oregon in 1956 when Mr. Mill died. Mrs. Mill disposed of their business and returned to Lusk.

She had been in ill health for about two years and was moved last August to the rest home in Douglas.

Mrs. Mill was known to her many friends as "Flossie". She was baptized in the First Christian Church in her early days, and her family and friends say her life in service and kindness was a true example of Christianity. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and gave so willingly.

Her parents, two sisters, two brothers, her husband and one daughter died previously.

Survivors include three sister-in-laws, Mrs. Ottie Cogeshall, of Crawford, Mrs. Bertha Boyd and Mrs. Christine Strube, both of Lusk, three brothers-in-law, George Mill of Lusk, Jeff Friis of Omaha, Nebr., and Bill Mill of Casper, Wyo.; numerous nieces and nephews.
