Frank DeCastro

Frank W. DeCastro, a Lusk native died Oct. 18, 1985, at the Veteran's Hospital in Denver after a long illness. He was 69.

Mr. DeCastro was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Lusk, the 13th child of Frank and Annie DeCastro. He attended school in Lusk and College in Taft, Calif.

He was an excellent boxer in his youth and competed in the Golden Glove Tournament in Omaha, Neb., and the Elks Tournament in Denver.

He served as an Air Force pilot in World War II. He was assigned to a ferry command and delivered T63s to Alaska for pickup by Russian pilots.

After the war he was an instructor for the Navy in a civilian pilot training program in Chadron, Neb. He later operated airports in Lusk and Buffalo.

He later became a crop duster in Colorado and it was in that capacity that he contracted lung problems that led to his death. In the off season he worked as a car salesman for Haas Motors and as a personal pilot for Mr. Haas and others in the Denver area.

He is survived by his wife, Roxie Hall of Conifer, Colo.; a son, Frank Jr.; a granddaughter, Karli DeCastro; a grandson, Gordon Rupert; four sisters, Lila Johnson of Lusk, Dora Osborne of Hemingford, Neb., Jackie Gallup of Cheyenne, and Esther Fancher of Scappoose, Ore; two brothers, A. B. DeCastro of Hay Springs, Neb., and Chad DeCastro of Julesburg, Colo., and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and one daughter.

His body was cremated in interred at North Platte, Neb.
