Monday, February 27 the 1972 film, “Deliverance” will be shown at the library at 6 p.m. A light meal and discussion led by Deane Tucker will be part of the evening. The film is rated R and is 110 minutes. This is the 2nd in the four-film Survival series. “Jeremiah Johnson” and “127 Hours” are next on the schedule.
The Friends of the Library will hold a RIF (Reading is Fundamental) program on Wednesday, February 29 at 6:30 p.m. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will perform a skit based on the book “Dragon Soup” by Arlene Williams. A new historical fiction book is “Death of Kings” by Bernard Cornwell. As the 9th century wanes, Alfred the Great lies dying. His dream of a unified England is in danger and his kingdom is on the brink of chaos. His son has been named his successor, but there are other Saxon claimants to the throne as well as ambitious pagan Vikings to the north – like Uhtred, who is torn between his vows to Alfred and his desire to reclaim his long ancestral lands and castle. This book is part of the “Saxon” series; the other books are available to check out.

Jefferson Parker, “Gun Games” by Faye Kellerman, “Italian Shoes” by Henning Mankell, “Colorado Dawn” by Kaki Warner, “Three Seconds” by Andres Roslund, “The Maid of Fairbourne Hall” by Julie Klassen and “The Lamp: Just Believe” by Jim Stovall. Some new titles for the young adult are “The Always War” by Margaret Peterson Haddix and “Crossed” by Ally Condie.
New non-fiction books are “Sam O. White: Alaskan” by Jim Rearden, “Nearing Home: Life, Faith, and Finishing Well” by Billy Graham and “Guinness World Records 2012.”
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books: “Morgan the Midnight Fairy” by Daisy Meadows, “The Whites of Their Eyes” by Andrew Clements and “May B” by Caroline Starr Rose. Also available: “Pickalicious: the Pinkerrific Playdate” by Victoria Kann, “Pooh’s School Day” by Lauren Cecil and “A Bad Kitty Christmas” by Nick Bruel.
