On Tuesday, September 11, at 12:00 noon, the Niobrara County Library will host a brown bag lunch program featuring Denice Wheeler and Lila Bond with their recently-published book, “The Lonely Life: Basque Sheepherders in Wyoming.” The book features the Basque people that settled throughout Wyoming while working in the sheep industry and is sure to be an interesting program. A display of authentic memorabilia will also be available and the book will be available for purchase. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!

There are still spaces in the kindergarten afterschool program which will be held on Mondays from 3:20 to 4:30. Call 334-3490 or stop by for more information.

A new fiction book is “The Woman at the Light” by Joanna Brady. In 1839 Emily Lowry’s husband vanishes from Wrecker’s Cay where he tends to the light house. As days stretch into months, Emily has no choice but to take charge of the light house to support her 3 children and one on the way. Unexpected help arrives when a runaway slave named Andrew washes up on the beach; he proves himself an enormous help and soon wins the heart of the family. When her family is ripped apart once again, Emily faces hardships that test her love and determination and shows how the passionate love of a defiant woman can overcome any obstacle.

Other new fiction books are “The Great Escape” by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, “Hellbox” by Bill Pronzini, “The Next Best Thing” by Jennifer Weiner, “Kill Decision” by Daniel Suarez, “Infrared” by Nancy Huston, “Waiting for Sunrise” by William Boyd, “Friends Forever” by Danielle Steel and “Night Watch” by Linda Fairstein. “Way to Go” by Tom Ryan is now available in the YA section as well as “Swipe” by Evan Angler and “Beauty” by Lisa Daily.

New non-fiction books are “Mick: the Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger” by Christopher Anderson, “Quantum Enigma: Physics Encounters Consciousness” by Bruce Rosenblum and “Bear Country Behavior: Essential Skills and Safety Tips for Hikers” by Bill Schneider.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior titles: “Two Crafty Criminals” by Philip Pullman, “Trouble Maker” by Andrew Clements and “The Bad Apple” by T. R. Burns. Some new books in the easy section are “Eleanore Won’t Share!” by Julie Gassman, “11 Experiments That Failed” by Jenny Offill and “You’re Finally Here!” by Melanie Watt.
