Don’t forget to stop by the Friends of the Library’s annual Book Sale and Ice Cream Social on Saturday, June 27. The book sale begins at 8 a.m. and the ice cream social at 11 a.m., both events end at 2 p.m. This fundraiser helps to provide books for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Dial-A-Story, Reading Is FUN, live performances and more!
Magician Cody Landstrom will perform at the library on Monday, June 29 at 1 p.m. Cody is an accomplished magician and his show entertain!



Tuesday, June 30 at 1 p.m. Curtis Mork, “The Lego Guy” will showcase his “Unearth a Story” Lego creations and he will also share Lego history. Children will also have the opportunity to create their very own Lego creation.
The library will be closed on Friday, July 3 for Independence Day. Regular hours will resume at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 6.

Jane Smiley’s newest novel is “Lidie: the Further Adventures of Lidie Newton.” After her abolitionist husband is murdered in the lawless Kansas Territory in 1857, Lidie returns to Quincy, Illinois. When her niece Annie, an actress at the local theater, is offered the opportunity to perform abroad, Lidie, armed with her pistol and her wit, goes with her. Once they arrive in Liverpool, England, Annie takes a stage name and finds her way to a career while Lidie becomes her lady’s maid. Will either of them be content with this new lot in life?

A new young adult series is “The Knights of Arrethtrae” by Chuck Black.
Among the newer non-fiction books is “The Desecration of Man: How the Rejection of God Degrades Our Humanity” by Carl R. Trueman.
The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior titles “Fifth Grade Top Dogs” by Jerry Spinelli and “The Gorgon’s Fury” by Brandon Mull. Among the newer easy books are “This Was Not the Plan” by Jane Chapman, “Daddy Pig’s Favorite Things” created by Neville Astley, “It’s My Bird-Day” by Mo Willems, “Iguana Miss You” by Sandra Boynton, and “Serafina Makes Waves” by Matthew Burgess.
“Happy 4th of July!” is the theme for Storyhour on June 30, 2026. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. Toddler Time is held on Wednesdays from 10:30-11 a.m. through August 12, July 1 will feature “What Did We See.”
