Emerson Himes, Resident 43 Years, Dies Sat.

Emerson H. Himes, 74, retired rancher of Niobrara, died in the DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne, Saturday. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Peet Chapel, with the Rev. James E. Davis of the Congregational Church, officiating.

Active pallbearers were: Lloyd Miller, Robert Scott, Ed Hesco, Jennings Ruffing, Wayne Dainton, and John DeGering. Honorary pallbearers were: Pat Miller, Melvin Miller, William Hales, Wayne Hammer, Albert DeGering, Dudley Fields, Alex Gunn, Ed Boner, and Howell F. Bryant.

Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. Lyle Eddy sang "Beyond the Sunset", Rock of Ages", and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.

Emerson Howard Himes, son of Sumner L. and Luella Walker Himes, was born April 9, 1892 at Alliance, Nebr. He attended school at Alliance and after graduating helped his father on the dairy farm near there.

He came to Wyoming in 1923 and soon filed on a homestead near Hat Creek. He met Alma Hitz and on June l, 1927 they were married. They were the parents of two children, Milton H. of Lusk and a daughter Myrna Kay Golden of Torrington.

He was in the ranching business raising registered Hereford cattle. He belonged to the American Hereford Association and the Wyoming Stock Growers Association.

He was leader of the Fairview 4-H Club and was Wyoming State 4-H leader one year. He was a member of the Wyoming Farm Bureau and drove a school bus for a number of years. During the Wyoming Diamond Jubilee in 1965, he acted as miner on the Cheyenne to Deadwood Stageline.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Alliance.

Survivors include his wife, Alma; son, Milton; daughter Myra Kay Golden; six grandchildren; a sister, Stella Younkin of Lusk; and three brothers, Maurice of Phoenix, Percy of Spokane, and Edward of Alliance.

His parents, an infant brother and a sister, Elsie Heth, died previously.
