August Mashek Dies Wednesday After Long Illness

Following an illness lasting more than two years, the last two months of which caused confinement in the Lusk hospital, August Joseph Mashek passed away at 9:10 Wednesday evening, at the age of 55 years, 2 months and 25 days. For the past month his condition grew steadily worse and several times during the past week death seemed near at hand.

Mr. Mashek was born in Czechoslovakia, on August 24th, 1876, a son of Joseph and Anna Mashek. When has was but two weeks old the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Gage county, Nebraska, near Sterling. There they lived for about two years, next moving to Albion, Nebr., where they spent 12 years in residence. In 1889 the family moved to Wyoming, locating near this city.

On December 16, 1906, Mr. Mashek was married to Miss Ivy Keithley at Harrison, Nebr., after which they settled in Lusk to make their home and where they have since resided. To this union twelve children were born, all of whom, besides the widow, survive. They are: Mrs. Lucille Thomas, Hamilton, Mont.; Mrs. Muriel Wiegand, Lance Creek, Wyo.; Alice Norma, Juanita and Audrey; Raleigh, Ernest, Dale, Robert, Gordon and Kenneth, all of whom reside at the family home here. Four brothers, Alex and James of Lusk; Henry, of Hemingford, Nebr., and Anton, of Denver, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pfister and Mrs. Barbara Rider of Lusk, also survive.

For a number of years Mr. Mashek had worked at the carpenter trade, but during the past several years his health had been such that he was unable to do any heavy labor. He was a victim of chronic abscessed lung.

The remains were placed in charge of the Peet Mortuary and funeral services under direction of George Earl Peet will be held from the Baptist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be made in the Lusk cemetery.

The community joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.

Remains Of August Mashek Laid At Rest Here Last Saturday

Funeral services for August Joseph Mashek, who passed away at the Lusk hospital last Wednesday evening, following a long period of illness, were held from the Baptist church at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, November 21st, Rev. B. F. Farrar, pastor, officiating.

Through the severe storm, the remains were conveyed to the Lusk cemetery, where they were laid at rest. Funeral directions were in charge of the Peet Mortuary.

Pall bearers were L. R. Van Tassell, Archie Sparks, J. D. Lorenzen, George Saffell, Carl Baughn and George Johnston.

Deceased had been in failing health for the past several years and during the last two months of life was confined to the Lusk hospital. He was a sufferer from lung trouble.

He is survived by his widow and twelve children.
